SEO Content Checker

A free SEO writing assistant: paste your draft and the keyword you want to rank for, and get a checklist of what to fix before you publish. It runs in your browser, so unpublished drafts stay private.

Paste from Google Docs or Word as plain text, from WordPress as HTML, or write Markdown. Links and images are detected in Markdown and HTML.

What the SEO Content Checker looks at

Paid SEO writing assistants compare your draft with the pages that already rank. This free version checks the basics that every good page gets right, and that are easy to miss when you are writing fast:

  • Keyword placement: is your target phrase in the title, the first 100 words, a subheading and the meta description? Small words in between still count, so “resize an image” matches “resize image”.
  • Keyword repetition: how often the phrase appears. There is no magic percentage; the checker only warns when repetition starts to look unnatural.
  • Structure: length, one H1, subheadings every few hundred words, and paragraphs short enough to read on a phone.
  • Readability: the Flesch Reading Ease score and the share of very long sentences. See the Readability Checker for more detail.
  • Title and meta description: length in characters and the estimated pixel width Google uses to cut titles. Preview them with the SERP Snippet Preview.
  • Links and images: internal and external links, and images without alt text.

How the score works

The score starts at 100. Each “Fix” item takes off 15 points and each “Improve” item takes off 6. Notes and passed checks don’t change it. It is a quick checklist score made by Rankbench, not a Google ranking score: a page can score 100 and still not rank if the content isn’t better than what is already on page one.

What it can’t tell you

Google ranks pages on how well they answer the search, how trustworthy the site is and how many other sites link to it. No checker can measure whether your advice is right or your examples are original. Use this to catch the mechanical problems, then spend your time on the part only you can do: real experience, clear answers and useful detail.

How to use the SEO Content Checker

  1. Type the keyword you want the page to rank for, plus your title and meta description if you have them.
  2. Paste the article as plain text, Markdown or HTML.
  3. Work through the “Fix” items first, then “Improve”. The checklist updates as you edit.

Frequently asked questions

Is this the same as a paid SEO writing assistant?

It covers the on-page basics those tools check, for free. Paid tools also compare your draft with the pages that rank today, using their own search data. That part needs a paid data source.

What keyword density should I aim for?

There is no ideal number, and Google doesn’t use one. Use the phrase where it fits naturally. The checker only warns when repetition gets heavy.

Is my draft uploaded anywhere?

No. Everything runs in your browser, so unpublished articles stay on your device.
